Several Mass., NH donut shops robbed on National Donut Day – Boston News, Weather, Sports

WINDHAM, NH (WHDH) – A burglar targeted several donut shops in New Hampshire and Massachusetts on June 3, otherwise known as National Donut Day.

According to police, the crime spree all started at a liquor store in Dracut early Friday morning when the suspect was caught on surveillance camera smashing the glass and rushing to the cash register – which he failed to open.

Early Friday morning, Windham, NH officers learned of multiple robberies that happened along the Route 128 corridor in the state at “fast food donut chains,” including a Windham Honey Dew Donuts.

He stays in the store for about 23 seconds before taking off with a handful of lottery tickets.

Detectives said a short while later — just 3 miles from the liquor store — a man that fit a similar description walked into Heav’nly Donuts and handed an employee a piece of paper that claimed he has a gun.

He once again made an unsuccessful grab for the register.

Police in nearby Lowell, as well as Pelham and Windham, New Hampshire said they are also looking for a suspect in other donut shop thefts.

Windham police officers were called to Dunkin after a white man wearing a surgical mask approached the drive-thru window on foot and grabbed the tip jar after a short struggle.

While looking for the suspected red Toyota Camry, officers saw a car matching that description and attempted to stop the driver. The driver then immediately sped away, and officers lost sight of the car.

Though police have yet to connect these crimes, they do say the suspect and the car he was driving all fit the same description.
