Giving Away Kittens

If you own a cat then you are probably aware of how easy they can breed.  Many cat owners with female cats that are not fixed usually go through the chore of helping the cat give birth and then giving away the kittens to neighbors and friends.

Cats can have relatively big litters so it can be difficult sometimes to find homes for cats. If you know your cat is pregnant, you should plan ahead and try as soon as possible to find homes for the kittens.

Most owners usually find that their friends or family members can take one or two cats and then try to find people to take the remaining kittens.  When finding homes for your kittens it is your responsibility to make sure you ask the right questions to determine if a home is safe and comfortable for the kitten.  While friends, family members and coworkers are easy to trust, be more careful and less trustworthy with strangers.  Make sure they have a comfortable home and a good schedule in order to raise a cat. 

You don’t have to interrogate a prospective kitten owner, but ask specific questions, such as, do they have a good living area for the kitten?  Do they have cats at home?  Have they ever cared for a pet? And do they have any dogs or other animals in their house? You can usually determine whether the person is a good candidate based on these and other questions and factors. If you are giving away kittens, plan ahead and make sure that their new home will be safe and comfortable.
