Cats and dogs by their very nature usually aren’t the best of friends.  However there are many households that have both cats and dogs.  Here are some tips on how to make a house with both dogs and cats live together comfortably

Dogs and cats living together can work, however you should put a lot of thought and effort to make sure that both pets are safe and comfortable.  Most dogs and cats  in a house can work and it usually depends on the cat or dogs disposition.  If your cat or dog is very wild, playful or has developed hunting instincts, it is usually not a good idea to mix animals.  However if both dog and cats are calm, house animals, there shouldn’t be problems.

When introducing both animals to each other, you should observe closely how both cat and dogs interact with each other.  If they don’t bother with each other that is a good sign.  What you want to be aware of is when your dog constantly watches your cat.  These are predator instincts and your dog may attack your cat at any moment.  It is also important to watch the cat.  A cat may scratch at the dog and injure the dogs eyes or hurt them causing major friction in the house.  If your dog and cat can’t get along, separate the two immediately or look for another home.  Your pet’s safety is at stake.  You do not want either pet to be injured.  If you are deciding on whether to have both dogs and cats living together read the above tips.
